A Boys Ranch is a Christian residential school focused on character development and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote ranch locations are a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Boys ranches work hard to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend boys ranches from across the country, including from Alaska, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment detached from negative peers back home.
Each boy begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and numerous other attractive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can tackle the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. They also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranches usually provide a fully accredited education that also consists of independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any productive education, and they communicate this in the classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. They assist frequent contact between the students and their parents using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
A boys ranch leads troubled boys to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, they believe in values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his life. Please think about looking beyond Alaska to see how boys ranches can bring about restoration in your family.
