A Boys Ranch works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to boys ranches from across the nation, including from West Des Moines, Iowa, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment detached from negative peers back home.
Boys ranches are a similar therapeutic residential program with a mission for character development and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. They balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and numerous other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. They also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranches usually provide a fully accredited education that also consists of independent study courses. All credits earned transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits the students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any worthwhile education, and they communicate this in the classroom. In addition, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. Boys ranches provide frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
A Boys Ranch is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will serve your child into adulthood.
