Boys ranches strive to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to boys ranches from across the country, including from Tacoma, Washington, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment detached from negative peers back home.
Boys ranches are also therapeutic residential schools with a heart for character development and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents adopt more positive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. They are typically in gorgeous countryside locations that provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and numerous other attractive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can work through the destructive choices that had held him or her back. They also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at A Boys Ranch are usually provided a fully-accredited education, transferrable credits, and real teachers. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. They believe that responsibility and a disciplined life plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. They facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, they believe in building good character that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please think about looking outside of Tacoma, Washington to see how boys ranches can bring about restoration in your family.
