A Boys Ranch works hard to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend boys ranches from across the nation, including from Saint Paul, Minnesota, and often find it advantageous to spend time in a new environment separate from negative peers near home.
A Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character development and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with fun recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Most boys ranches are in a beautiful mountainous or desert location that is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and many other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can overcome the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. Boys ranches also usually provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at boys ranches are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits the students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any successful education, and they communicate this in the classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. They support frequent contact between the student and parent using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, they believe in building good character that will serve your child into adulthood. Please consider looking outside of Saint Paul, Minnesota to see how boys ranches can bring about restoration in your family.
