They usually include a school that works hard to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at A Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Helena, Montana, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment detached from negative peers back home.
Boys ranches are also therapeutic residential schools with a mission for character growth and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. They are typically in gorgeous countryside locations that provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each child begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. Boys ranches also usually provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranch residents are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. Discipline plays a key role in any productive education, and they convey this in the classroom. In addition, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. They assist frequent contact between the students and their parents using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
A Boys Ranch is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will be profitable for your child for the rest of his or her life. Please consider looking outside of Helena, Montana to see how boys ranches can bring about restoration in your family.
