Boys ranches strive to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at A Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and often find it constructive to grow in a new environment detached from negative peers back home.
A Boys Ranch is a Christian residential school focused on character development and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop better life attitudes, grow in their belief, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote locations typically provide excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the destructive choices that had held him or her back. They also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at A Boys Ranch are usually provided a fully-accredited education, transferrable credits, and real teachers. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the full cooperation of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
