Adolescents come to boys ranches from across the nation, including from East Lansing, Michigan, and often find it valuable to experience a new environment separate from negative peers near home.
Boys ranches are also a residential school with a heart for character maturity and family renewal. They often provide a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents develop constructive life attitudes, flourish in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every adolescent begins by forming a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. They also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranches usually provide a fully accredited education that also consists of independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any successful education, and they communicate this in the classroom. In addition, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. They assist frequent contact between the students and their parents using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, they believe in values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his life. Please consider looking outside of East Lansing, Michigan to see how boys ranches can lead to restoration in your family.
