A Boys Ranch endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to boys ranches from around the country, including from Andover, Minnesota, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment away from negative peers near home.
Boys ranches are a similar therapeutic residential program with a mission for character maturity and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote ranch locations are a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every boy begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and countless other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can tackle the destructive choices that had held him or her back. They also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranch residents are usually provided a fully-accredited education, transferrable credits, and real teachers. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any productive education, and they communicate this in the classroom. In addition, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the full cooperation of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. Boys ranches provide frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
