A Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a heart for character maturity and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents adopt more positive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with fun recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote locations typically provide excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Boys ranches are like therapeutic boarding schools that endeavor to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens arrive at boys ranches from across the nation, including from Virginia, and often find it advantageous to grow in a new environment away from negative peers near home.
Each boy begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, supported by a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the conflicts that had held him or her back. Boys ranches also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranches usually provide a fully accredited education that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. Boys ranch believe the discipline of hard work and care for animals can play a key part in any productive education, and they communicate this in the classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration takes place only with the close involvement of parents. Parents can usually attend family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
A Boys Ranch is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, they believe in building good character that will serve your child into adulthood. Please consider looking beyond Virginia to see how boys ranches can lead to restoration in your family.
