A Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a heart for character maturity and family renewal. They often provide a home-like atmosphere where troubled adolescents adopt better life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Boys ranches are often located in remote locations provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Boys ranches are like therapeutic boarding schools that endeavor to encourage academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents arrive at boys ranches from across the nation, including from Idaho, and often find it advantageous to experience a new environment away from negative peers near home.
Each boy begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and many other desirable character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the child can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. Boys ranches also use individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranch residents are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. They believe that responsibility and a disciplined life plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops during the year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. They facilitate frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
A Boys Ranch is a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we teach values and character traits that will serve your child all of his or her life. Please consider looking outside of Idaho to see how boys ranches can bring restoration to your family.
