Boys ranches Helps Boys With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Your Son at A Boys Ranch

We can work with your boy who is suffering with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (or OCD), an anxiety disorder evidenced with unwanted and continual thoughts, feelings, ideas and sensations.

His ceaseless rotation of undesirable thoughts (obsessions) leads him to try to stop them by engaging in compulsive activities. He knows that the thoughts or behaviors are disproportionate, but will get only momentary reprieve by performing the compulsive behaviors.

This can be even more anxiety-producing, with apprehension of germs, dirt, disease, errors, insistence for evenness or exactitude, unwelcome impulses to harm someone, objectionable sexual or religious thoughts.  Even a fear of being embarrassed.

His common compulsions may presented as excessively ceremonial behavior, like continual counting or voicing particular phrases, repetition of everyday activities (like hand washing, turning on/off the stove, entering/leaving a room), hoarding (especially items with no conceivable value), eating foods in a very particular pattern, refusal to shake hands.

*Note: while sometimes used synonymously, OCD is not to be confused with OCPD, or Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. An OCD sufferer has unwanted thoughts and knows they are ridiculous, while an OCPD sufferer believes his thinking to be appropriate and natural.

If untreated, your child might suffer extra troubles (although not all directly caused by OCD): depression, eating or anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and an overall, poor quality of life, suicidal thoughts (or behavior).

Cognitive behavior therapy is most efficient, frequently in tandem with medication, in helping him to tackle his OCD unease and anxieties in healthy ways.  Anti-depressants (particularly ones that interact with the brain’s serotonin production) may also be prescribed and useful in mitigating symptoms of OCD.

Boys ranches – Where Your Troubled Boy Comes for Hope and His Future.

A Boys Ranch is a Christian therapeutic boarding School with a non-threatening, nurturing environment for boys struggling with emotional, academic or behavioral issues.  We are here to assist your son in learning to overcome destructive decisions, to attain academic and physical accomplishments, to form Christian values and learn discipline, while learning to view himself as a unique and valuable person.

Is your boy struggling or out of control? Have you seen dramatic changes in his behavior?  Boys ranches is here to improve his behavior and life goals, to tackle and conquer his problems, in our structured lifestyle on our 10-acre Montana campus.

We utilize textbooks in our academic courses, and also various non-traditional educational techniques, which are designed to more fully engage your son in his education, employing alternative approaches if he has exhausted the conventional approaches. We provide counseling to deal with issues and struggles, and at the same time believe in time for fun, so he’ll have access to a wide variety of outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, fishing, swimming and horseback riding.

Boys ranches utilizes a positive, incentive-based discipline system that not only teaches consequences for unacceptable behavior and foolish choices, but also fiscal management and responsibility.  Your son will learn that that the choices he makes today can change his course, and he’ll face the world better equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in life.

Boys ranches, known for their unique approach to therapy and rehabilitation for young males, go by several other names that reflect their varied focus and methodologies. These include therapeutic boarding schools, wilderness therapy programs, residential treatment centers, youth ranches, and adventure-based therapy programs. Each of these names highlights a different aspect of the holistic approach these facilities take. Therapeutic boarding schools, for instance, emphasize the integration of academic education with therapy, catering to boys who may have fallen behind in their studies due to behavioral or emotional challenges. Wilderness therapy programs focus on outdoor expeditions and nature-based activities as a means of therapy, helping boys develop resilience, teamwork, and self-sufficiency. Residential treatment centers offer a more clinical setting, providing intensive therapy and counseling for more severe psychological or behavioral issues. Youth ranches and adventure-based therapy programs often incorporate elements of traditional ranch life or adventurous outdoor activities, respectively, using these experiences as vehicles for personal growth and emotional healing. Regardless of their title, these facilities share a common goal: to provide a safe, structured environment where boys can work through their challenges, develop positive coping strategies, and ultimately achieve a healthier, more balanced life.
