Does your boy suffer from Anti Social Personality Disorder (ASPD), which is defined (by the American Psychiatric Association) as “a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others?” Symptoms include failure to conform, deceit, rash impulses, bad temper, disdain for his safety (and the safety of others), and a pattern of negligent behavior and lack of remorse.
An unceasing mental condition, in which he might show signs of dysfunctional thinking and relating to others, your teen might be completely apathetic for others’ feelings, be manipulative and insincere, possibly breaking the law, and exhibiting no regret.
These can all be signs of Antisocial Personality Disorder, and A Boys Ranch will provide a safe and nurturing environment for your son as he struggles to overcome his serious problem.
ASPD traits are tricky for parents to recognize. There is not a unanimously agreed upon treatment for this disorder but there might be hope in ones that show the high cost of illegal and improper behavior. There are studies that reveal reward systems or contingency management to be fairly helpful in steering behavior to a more satisfactory norm (not to be confused with normal, parental attempts at punishment and incentive).
While an extremely complicated disorder to treat, your boy will require long-term treatment for ASPD, as well as for associated conditions, such as depression, substance abuse and anxiety.
It is quite important to have ASPD properly diagnosed and treated, so that he won’t suffer possible, life-altering consequences, such as alcohol or substance abuse, unsafe and reckless behaviors that might lead to incarceration.
You don’t want ASPD to control his life!
A supportive, Christian therapeutic boarding school for adolescent boys struggling with behavioral, emotional or academic issues, a Boys Ranch is here to help your boy learn to resist making destructive decisions, to achieve academically and physically, while learning to accept himself as a special and valuable human being.
Is your son struggling, out of control? Has his behavior changed dramatically within the last year? Boys ranches can help him get on the other side of bad behaviors, anger and self-destruction. The structured lifestyle of our home-like environment will enable him to develop better life attitudes, so that he may face and conquer his problems and challenges.
We make the most of both an accredited distance-learning program as well as alternative methods, since different students learn in different ways, and at different paces. We work very hard on issues and problems … but we also play hard. Our rustic campus will provide plenty of outdoor time for camping, fishing, hunting, equine and other outdoor activities.
