Boys ranches are designed to build character and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which struggling adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. They balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote ranch locations are a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Boys ranches strive to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to boys ranches from across the country, including from Oxnard, California, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment away from negative peers near home.
Every teen begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a strong work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the conflicts that had held him or her back. Boys ranches also usually provide individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at A Boys Ranch are usually provided a fully-accredited education, transferrable credits, and real teachers. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits the students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. They believe that responsibility and a disciplined life plays a key role in any successful education, and they communicate this in the classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the close involvement of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child on our campus. They support frequent contact between the student and parent using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
We are a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, they believe in building good character that will be profitable for your boy’s life. Please consider looking outside of Oxnard, California to see how boys ranches can bring restoration to your family.
