Boys ranches are also therapeutic residential schools with a mission for character development and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment in which troubled adolescents develop more positive life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They complement hard ranch work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote ranch locations are a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
A Boys Ranch endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to boys ranches from across the country, including from Boise, Idaho, and often find it beneficial to experience a new environment away from negative peers near home.
Each boy begins by forming trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores build a solid work ethic and numerous other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can work through the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. They also offer individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at boys ranches are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. They believe that responsibility and a disciplined life plays a key role in any productive education, and they communicate this in the classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Lasting family restoration occurs only with the close involvement of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. Boys ranches provide frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
We are a Christ-centered program that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your boy’s life. Please think about looking beyond Boise, Idaho to see how boys ranches can bring about restoration in your family.
