Boys ranches are like therapeutic boarding schools — they are a ranch-based therapeutic residential school with a mission for character growth and family unity. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents adopt more positive life attitudes, grow in their faith, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. They offset hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Their remote locations typically provide excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Boys ranches strive to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to boys ranches from across the nation, including from Aurora, Illinois, and often find it advantageous to grow in a new environment separate from negative peers near home.
Each child begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Strenuous activities and daily chores contribute to a strong work ethic and many other positive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. Boys ranches also usually provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Boys ranch residents are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. Discipline plays a key role in any productive education, and they convey this in the classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics can include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. Parents are usually invited to attend family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which promotes communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
Boys ranches guide adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will be profitable for your child for the rest of his or her life. Please think about looking outside of Aurora, Illinois to see how boys ranches can bring about restoration in your family. To find out more, we invite you to read about each program, then use the inquiry form or call them.
